Interdisciplinary Projects

Participation in collaborative projects by the teaching staff and projects that students from the three departments set up on subjects that span their respective majors are important for expanding interdisciplinary lectures (courses that span all three departments) and building upon the results of the inter-departmental clinic.

Given that this program aims to develop professionals who have a comprehensive view of science and engineering and who understand the ideas set forth and approaches taken by both, a project is recognized as inter-departmental (interdisciplinary) if it satisfies the following conditions. First, the research theme of the project must be set up voluntarily by a group of students whose majors span the fields of science and engineering, and second, the project must include opportunities for students to exchange the ideas and approaches of their respective (science and engineering) fields and must promote the same.

For example, this could be a research project that approaches a science and engineering interdisciplinary topic from different viewpoints, a study project that revolves about a voluntary study session in relation to a science and engineering interdisciplinary research theme or a research theme proposed by certain students and that recruits students from other majors to take a multi-faceted approach, or an incubating research project by a science and engineering interdisciplinary group that refers to research assistants (RAs), ATs, or teaching staff for advice and proposals. Units are of course given for an interdisciplinary project.
