Interdisciplinary Social Networking Service

A social network service (SNS) is well known as a means of communication over the Internet. The Inter-departmental Coordination Program has introduced a SNS with the aim of deepening collaboration in education research among students and instructors and among fellow students in a systematic way.

A user account (ID) is provided to all graduate students belonging to the Department of Mathematics and Information Sciences, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Department of Mechanical Engineering. With this SNS, anyone can set up a community and ask questions via a question corner.

This program makes use of ASAHI Net's "manaba" SNS oriented to educational institutions. It is used in much the same way as other SNSs (such as mixi) in which each community consists of appropriate threads through which users can contact each other and hold discussions. Of course, content may also be shared freely through manaba. There is also a reminder function for advising a user by e-mail that a new entry has been posted in a community that he or she is participating in.
